Written by Robert Moore Marketing Manager 9 June 2022

31Dover the owner of Spirit Ed which was founded in 2012, has gone into administration following a period of “difficult” trading and the  inability to raise crucial working capital.

The businesses subject to the administration are

  • DMD Operations
  • Vanquish Operations,
  • E-commerce site Spirit.Ed
  • The Gin Club
  • OnStock.

Colin Hardman and Clare Lloyd, of Smith and Williamson were appointed as joint administrators last week.

Hardman commented: “Following a period of difficult trading conditions, the companies’ management had attempted to find a new strategic funder. Whilst we understand that negotiations were at a very developed stage, ultimately they were not successful.

“The joint administrators will therefore be aiming to realise the best possible value from the business and assets, in order to maximise the return to the creditors.”

The Spirit.Ed online store is offline and, The Gin Club has stated on social media that it had ceased trading

Due to Covid and the impact on the hospitality industry DMD Operations made losses of  £15.5m in 2020

In 2019, the company tried to raise money using a crowdfunding campaign but it failed to generate enough interest.

Bertrand Perrodo, part of one of France’s wealthiest families was an early backer during their period of growth.
