Jeffrey Green Russell in merger talks

5 October 2015

According to The Lawyer, the London law firm, Jeffrey Green Russell, has issued a notice of intention to appoint an administrator after a winding up petition was lodged at court last week.

It's been suggested the firm was bought in a pre-pack administration deal as reports say it had been seeking a merger in previous months.

There may have also been problems with renewing the firm’s professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) as well as ‘in-fighting’, sources say.

A statement to The Lawyer said, “Jeffrey Green Russell confirms that there are advanced discussions being held with a merger partner which will lead to the transfer of its business to a well-established London law firm."

“It is very much business as usual and a full announcement will be made shortly”.

Update: Gordon Dadds has acquired JGR in a pre-pack administration deal. Joint administrators Andrew Hosking and Simon Bonney from Quantuma were appointed to oversee the process, ensuring JGR clients as well as employee contracts will be transferred over.
