Hawick Knitwear goes into administration

7 January 2016

Clothing manufacturer, Hawick Knitwear, has called in the administrators following tough trading conditions and a gradual fall in demand.

Tony Friar and Blair Nimmo from KPMG have been appointed to oversee the process and are looking to find potential buyers for the business. Unfortunately, 123 employees have been made redundant while 56 will be kept on to assist the administrators.

Based in the Scottish Borders, the company has been manufacturing knitwear (including cashmere and wool clothing) since 1874 for customers throughout the UK and abroad. Management had previously tried to secure additional funding for the business, however this was unsuccessful and the company felt administration was the best option going forward.

If you are an employee of the business, please listen to the video below as it will tell you your rights as an employee of an insolvent business.  There is a link at the end of the video to the Government website which expands further on what you need to know. If you have any urgent enquiries, please contact KPMG who are handling the administration.
