Crane company directors disqualified after tampering with records

18 August 2016

Richard Baldwin, Wayne Baldwin, Andrew Skelton and Lorraine Baldwin of Baldwins Crane Hire, have been disqualified after falsifying company records. The company’s licenses have also been revoked by the Traffic Commissioner.

The directors faked road breaks in order to get the cranes to sites on time, putting drivers at risk. An investigation in 2015 found 18 drivers to be breaking the rules by missing the set rest periods.

In December 2015, the company was found guilty of corporate manslaughter and fined £700,000 after one of its drivers died in a crash in East Lancashire.

With its licences revoked, Baldwin’s 81 sites will struggle to continue running. Failing to adhere to health and safety regulations can lead to fatal consequences, as shown in this case. It is an example to all businesses to follow the correct protocol.
